The Sector Distribution card shows how your portfolio is spread across market sectors (technology, financials, energy, healthcare, and so on) so you can spot concentration risk at a glance.
Why it matters
If a single sector dominates your allocation, your portfolio rises and falls with that sector’s fortunes. A more even distribution smooths out sector-specific shocks.
How it works
- Each position is assigned a sector from its ticker. Tickers without a mapping are grouped as Other.
- A sector’s share is the market value of its positions divided by the total value of all positions. Cash is not included.
- Shares are rounded to whole percentages, so the legend may not add up to exactly 100%.
- The header shows how many sectors you hold, and the info icon explains the term allocation.
Step-by-step
- Select Dashboard in the navigation bar and find the Sector Distribution card.
- Hover the pie chart to see each sector’s share.
- Select a sector in the legend to expand it and see its holdings: ticker, shares, value, and profit or loss percentage.
- Note any sector above a weight you are comfortable with.
- Use Company Research and Market Analysis to look for diversifiers.
Troubleshooting
- “No holdings yet”? Place a trade in Mock Trading to populate the card.
- Only a linked brokerage? The Dashboard card is built from your Mock Portfolio. A sector view of linked holdings is not currently shown here; use the Sector breakdown in the Positions & progress band on the Home page instead.
- A sector will not expand? It has no position-level detail to show.
- Looks lopsided? That is the point: it surfaces concentration you may want to address.
