The Total Profits card on your Dashboard shows your overall profit or loss as one headline number, then breaks it down by position so you can see which holdings are driving the result.
How to read it
- Headline total: your total profit or loss in dollars, with the percentage underneath.
- Bars: up to six positions with the largest profit or loss, green for gains and red for losses. For linked brokerage holdings, where per-position profit is not available, the bars show each position’s share of your portfolio instead.
- Position list: every holding, largest by market value first, with its profit or loss (or its dollar change today, marked “Day”, for linked holdings) and its percentage weight.
How it works
- With a Mock Portfolio, the total is your current portfolio value (cash plus positions) minus your starting cash, and the percentage is measured against that starting cash.
- With only a linked brokerage, the total and percentage are the gain or loss reported for your linked account.
- If neither is available the headline shows a dash.
- Select the arrow icon in the card header to open Trading.
Things to know
- For a Mock Portfolio, the total combines gains you have locked in by selling with gains on positions you still hold. The card does not currently split realized and unrealized profit.
- The card has no timeframe selector; it always shows the total since the portfolio started.
- A breakdown by asset type is not currently available.
Troubleshooting
- “No positions to show”? Add a Mock Portfolio position or link an account.
- Numbers differ from your broker? Quotes on Ezana refresh about once a minute, and linked-account data can lag your broker’s own site, so small gaps are normal during the trading day.
- Total is negative with no sales? It reflects the current market value of what you hold and changes as prices move.
- Seeing mock numbers with a brokerage linked? The Dashboard uses your Mock Portfolio whenever you have one.

FAQ
Q: Why do some bars show a percentage instead of dollars?
A: For linked holdings, profit per position is not available, so the bar shows the position’s weight in your portfolio.
Q: Is unrealized profit taxable?
A: Generally only realized gains are taxable events, but rules vary. Ezana does not give tax advice, so check with a tax professional.
