Mock Trading: Practicing With Virtual Cash
Every Ezana account starts with $100,000 in virtual cash for paper trading. This is genuine simulation — you can place buy and sell orders against live market prices and watch your portfolio respond as the market moves.
Where to find it
- Trading → Mock — the dedicated paper-trading interface with a portfolio summary, holdings list, and order entry form.
- Home page Mock Portfolio card — a snapshot of your virtual portfolio's current value and daily change.
How orders fill
Mock buys and sells fill at the most recent close price. There's no slippage, no commission, no fractional-share restrictions, and orders settle instantly. This makes the core mechanics tangible without simulating every nuance of real-world trading.
What's not simulated
- Options, futures, crypto, margin, short selling — long equity only.
- After-hours fills and pre-market trading.
- Real T+1 settlement (mock cash settles instantly).
- Tax events — mock gains and losses don't generate 1099s.
Resetting your mock portfolio
Settings → Account has a Reset Mock Portfolio button. This wipes all virtual holdings and returns you to $100,000 cash. Your trading history is cleared, but any badges earned for paper-trading milestones are kept.
Switching between mock and live
Once you connect a real brokerage (Plaid read-only or open an Ezana brokerage account via Alpaca), the dashboard's portfolio cards show real holdings. The mock portfolio remains intact in the background — useful for testing strategies you don't yet want to commit real money to.
