You can place practice trades in your mock portfolio today. Mock trades use $100,000 in virtual cash, fill at the latest available price, and let you learn the flow with no real money at risk. This guide covers how to place one and what to expect.
Step-by-step
- Open Trading → Mock Portfolio.
- In Place Order, search for a company or ticker and select it. The current price appears once it loads.
- Choose Buy or Sell. Sell is only available for stocks you already hold.
- Enter an Amount (USD), or tap a quick amount: $100, $500, $1,000, or $5,000.
- Check the summary (estimated shares, price per share, cash after, and order total), then submit.
What you’ll see
The trade fills right away at the latest quote, at any time of day, even when US markets are closed. The position appears in Open Positions, your cash updates, and the trade is logged in Recent Activity. Your Dashboard reflects the change too.
Things to know
- Mock orders are dollar-based, so you often buy a fraction of a share.
- Limit orders and order durations are not currently available in mock trading; every mock order fills at the latest price.
- Real order entry is not currently available in the app, either for Ezana brokerage (Alpaca) accounts or through a connected external brokerage. See Executing Trades From Ezana.
- To start over, use Reset Portfolio on the mock trading page.
Troubleshooting
- “No price data”? The quote could not load; try again or pick another ticker.
- Sell is greyed out? You do not own that stock in your mock portfolio.
- Not enough cash? Lower the amount, sell a position, or reset your portfolio.

Q: Can I cancel a mock trade?
A: Mock trades fill immediately, so there is nothing open to cancel. Sell the position to undo it.
Q: Do mock trades cost anything?
A: No. They use virtual cash and there are no commissions.
Q: Can I trade my real Ezana brokerage account here?
A: Not yet. The brokerage account page shows your balances, and order entry is planned for a later release.
