The Underperforming Badge Explained

2 min read

On the My Holdings strip of your Dashboard, any position that is down today carries an Underperforming badge. It is a nudge to look closer, not a signal to sell.

What it means

The badge appears on every holding whose price change for the day is negative. It is based on today’s move only, so the same position can carry it one day and not the next. Losing positions stand out instead of hiding behind your winners.

How it works

  • Holdings are sorted by position value, largest first, nine to a page. Use the arrows beside the My Holdings title to page through.
  • Each card shows the price per share, position value, today’s change in percent and dollars, and quantity.
  • The date selector on the card does not change which holdings are badged.
  • With a Mock Portfolio the strip uses it; otherwise it uses your linked brokerage holdings.

Step-by-step

  1. Select Dashboard in the navigation bar and find My Holdings.
  2. Look for cards marked Underperforming.
  3. Select a card (“View Details”) to open that ticker in Mock Trading.
  4. Research the move in Company Research.
  5. Decide whether your thesis still holds, then act or hold deliberately.

Troubleshooting

  • Badge on a long-term hold? That is fine. One down day is not a verdict on the position.
  • Most of your cards are badged? Likely a broad down day for the market.
  • No badges shown? None of your holdings are down today, or quotes have not loaded yet.
  • “No holdings to display”? Link an account or build a Mock Portfolio.

FAQ

Q: Should I sell an underperformer?

A: Not automatically. The badge is a prompt to review, not advice.

Q: Is it based on my total loss on the position?

A: No. It reflects today’s price change only. See Total Profits for gains and losses since purchase.

Q: How often does it update?

A: Quotes refresh about once a minute while the Dashboard is open.
