Every Ezana account can practice with a mock portfolio that starts with $100,000 in virtual cash. It is the safest place to learn how orders, positions, and profit and loss work before any real money is involved.
Step-by-step
- Open Trading → Mock Portfolio from the top nav.
- Search for a ticker. Ezana loads its latest quote and price chart.
- Choose Buy or Sell, then enter a dollar amount. Ezana converts it to shares at the current quote, so fractional shares are normal.
- Confirm the trade. Your Cash Available, Total Value, and Total P&L update right away, and the trade appears in your activity history.
- To exit a holding completely, close the position from your open positions list.
How fills work
Mock trades fill instantly at the latest quote Ezana fetches for that ticker, at any time of day, including when markets are closed. There are no commissions, no slippage, no settlement delay, and no order types beyond an immediate buy or sell. The goal is to make the mechanics tangible, not to simulate every nuance of a real market.
Resetting your portfolio
- Click Reset Portfolio at the top of the Mock Portfolio page.
- Optionally save a CSV of your current positions and trade history.
- Choose a starting balance between $1,000 and $10,000,000 (the default is $100,000).
- Confirm. Your positions and history are cleared and the new cash balance is set.
Troubleshooting
- “Insufficient funds”? The buy amount is larger than your Cash Available.
- “Could not get current price”? The quote failed to load. Wait a moment and search the ticker again.
- Can’t sell? You can only sell what you hold. Short selling, options, and margin are not currently available in mock trading.
- Trading badges changed after a reset? Trading achievements are based on your current mock portfolio, so clearing it can change their progress.
