Paper Trading: Practicing With $100,000

What you get: Every Ezana account starts with $100,000 in virtual cash for paper trading. This is defined in the app (see useMockPortfolio.js) and is available even on the free tier.

How fills work: Paper trades fill at the most recent market close price. There's no slippage, no commissions, no T+1 settlement, and no after-hours fills. The goal is to make the core mechanics tangible, not to simulate every nuance of real trading.

Limitations: Paper trading supports long equity positions only. No options, futures, crypto, margin, or short selling. Quotes are delayed 15 minutes during market hours.

Resetting: You can reset your paper portfolio back to $100,000 cash at any time from Settings → Account. Your trading history is cleared but any badges you earned for paper-trading milestones are kept.

When you connect a real brokerage, the dashboard switches to showing live data. The paper portfolio is preserved in the background — useful if you want to keep testing strategies alongside real investing.
