For The Quants is the strategy workspace in Research & markets. It brings together a strategy builder, backtest and comparison views, a live technical scanner, a pairs trading screener, a correlation matrix, a technical indicators library, and Polymarket research. Some cards run on live market data you request; others currently show illustrative sample figures, and this article tells you which is which.
How it works
- Open For the Quants from the Research & markets menu.
- In Strategy Builder, switch between My Strategies, Templates, and Community. Pick a template and click Clone & Edit, or click Create New Strategy to open the visual builder.
- Type a ticker into the Live Technical Scanner to see indicator readings labelled Buy, Sell, or Neutral.
- Enter two tickers in the Pairs Trading Screener to get the spread’s z-score, correlation, half-life, and a signal such as Long Spread, Short Spread, Watch, or No Trade.
- Enter two or more tickers in the Correlation Matrix and click Compute to see how their daily moves lined up over roughly the last 90 days.
- Browse the Technical Indicators Library by Momentum, Trend, Volatility, Volume, or Oscillators.
What each metric tells you
- Sharpe ratio: return per unit of total risk. Higher is better, but it is sensitive to the period chosen.
- Max drawdown: the largest peak-to-trough fall in the equity curve.
- Beta: sensitivity to a benchmark (the S&P 500 on this page). A beta near 1 moves with the market.
- Volatility: the size of return swings, useful for sizing positions.
- Correlation: how closely two assets move together. Low correlation between holdings improves diversification.
- Z-score and half-life: how stretched a pair’s spread is versus normal, and how quickly it has tended to revert.
What you’ll see
Backtest Results shows return, Sharpe, max drawdown, win rate, trade count, and alpha over 1M to 1Y windows, with an optional benchmark and drawdown overlay. Strategy Simulation draws animated probability visuals, and New run re-rolls them. Risk Analytics shows portfolio beta, 95% value at risk, sector concentration, correlation to market, and 30-day volatility.
Things to know
- Sample data: Backtest Results, Strategy Comparison, Strategy Simulation, and Risk Analytics currently display illustrative figures. They are not calculated from your own holdings or strategies.
- Live data: the Technical Scanner, Pairs Trading Screener, and Correlation Matrix fetch real price history for the tickers you enter.
- Not currently available: CSV export from this page and Monte Carlo stress tests of your own portfolio.
- Matrix empty? Enter at least two valid tickers separated by commas or spaces.
- Numbers look extreme? Short or thin price histories distort correlation and z-scores.
